In response to early 1900s flooding concerns, Port Angeles organized a remarkable plan to raise the city’s downtown streets. This ambitious engineering project led to the creation of a network of underground tunnels and storefronts, many of which still exist today.
This 2.5 hour guided tour delves into the city’s history, exploring hidden basements, tunnels, an original movie theater, and a concealed brothel above a family shoe store. The experience includes short flights of stairs and several stops for storytelling, offering insights into the community’s past living conditions.
